The Fourth of July and the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence have passed. They were indeed anticlimactic and fraught with disappointment as tRump managed to ruin most of it. The reflecting pools, the pathetic State Fair, the overdone fireworks and the “rally” all contributed to the disaster. There were moments of irony, though, such as when the MAGA faithful who gathered to hear tRump’s speech were forced to take shelter from the rain in the African American museum or when the Patriot Front marchers with their masks and Confederate flags gave us an iconic photo with the Black woman on the Metro. Maybe the crowds in the African American Museum learned something from the displays there. The photo will surely go down in history along with Ruby Bridges going to school.
![]() I hope most of us found little ways to celebrate the Fourth and the 250th. Family bar-b-ques, fireworks, watching videos of celebrations in cities other than Washington DC. I saw great ones from Boston, New York and Philadelphia. There were many remarkable events that showed us that the American Spirit is still with us. We must work to keep that alive. As was obvious in the last month, everything tRump touches dies. Like the reflecting pools, the White House deconstruction, and the US participation in the World Cup, he has done much damage. Even heading to the NATO meeting in Turkey, tRump got his marching orders in a 90-phone call with Vladimir Putin. One man seems intent on destroying our country, but he cannot destroy our spirit and we can celebrate that. I have included a copy of the Declaration of Independence for us to peruse and remember what we are all about. |
